Exterior Lightweight Mouldings
All ALWP™ lightweight moulded products are made from expanded polystyrene, otherwise known as EPS, and have a polystyrene core with a hard coated polyurethane coating.
This coating has a special sand finish which allows paint or render to be applied directly to the surface. As the polystyrene is more flexible, installation is easier since the mouldings can bend slightly, unlike conventional concrete mouldings.
Benefits is that the mouldings will move with the building and so are not prone to cracking. There is no mechanical fixing required , use the specified adhesives and sealants to adhere to the surface
Exterior lightweight mouldings are manufactured under the strictest quality control to a standard 2.4m length with a sand finish.
Installation Guidelines
- Mouldings should be stored flat
- Ensure surface/substrate is dry and free of dust particles
- Climate conditions can affect the adhesive and curing time
- Installation is recommended between 5˚ and 35˚ C
- Use recommended adhesives at all times
- Apply a thick bead of adhesive liberally along the back of the moulding
- Adhesive tape or nails may be required to hold the moulding in place while the adhesive dries
- Once the mouldings is secure seal the edges with the polycarbonate sealant and smooth off to create a weatherproof seal (this will dry clear and can be painted)
- Paint either prior to installation or within 7 days of installation with two coats of quality exterior paint to protect the moulding
- Expansion can occur if mouldings are left out in direct sunlight and not painted
External Wall Cladding
ALWP™ Cladding System provides a strong and secure surface when applied in accordance with the technical manual.
Standard sheets are 50mm, 75mm or 100mm thick and are manufactured from a high quality M-Grade (medium density) or H-Grade (high density)( H grade is not standard and will be considered a special order)
R-Ratings for M-Grade polystyrene sheets:
- 50mm sheet is R1.2
- 75mm sheet is R1.8
- 100mm is R2.4
Installation Guidelines
- Fix ALWP™ panel to the timber frame with Class 3 galvanised screws and nylon washers( can be fixed to steel frame with specific screws for steel )
- Sheet can be installed vertically or horizontally
- Not less than 300mm nominal centre to centre spacings to adequately secure sheets
- Seal between sheets with sealant
- ALWP™ vapour breathable sarking building wrap is to be installed onto frame before the panel is installed
- 50mm to 75mm Foil adhesive and flashing tape to all windows and door frames
- Pre-coat bottom edges of exposed polystyrene-Polystyrene starter panel with hard coated polyurethane coating etch primed with Aluminium stater panels size 2,5m long with drip edge( see gallery for pictures)
- ALWP™ recommends that the manufactures guidelines are always followed when applying the render system onto the cladding.
Rendering
Installation Guidelines
ALWP™recommends that manufacturers’ guidelines are always followed. As a general principle . We recommend the use of an impact resistant mesh and allowing 5-7 days for the base and second coats to dry and cure before applying the third (texture colour ) coat.
Acrylic renders are marble based , not sand based, and are therefore rust resistant.
Membrane Sealer Coat
You can give your render finish optimum performance and longevity, flexibility and resistance to dirt by applying a final membrane sealer coat with a colour tint and UV protection. This can be rolled or painted on.
